College graduate posing by fountain during golden hour at Minnesota State University in Mankato MN

Graduating from college is such a huge milestone, and documenting this season deserves more than a quick cap-and-gown photo on your phone. Erika’s college graduation session at Minnesota State University, Mankato was the perfect celebration of everything she accomplished during her time on campus.

With warm golden hour sunlight, beautiful spring weather, and some of the best locations around campus, this Mankato grad session felt timeless, joyful, and full of excitement for what’s next.

A Beautiful Golden Hour Graduation Session at MSU Mankato

One of my favorite things about photographing college graduation sessions at Minnesota State University, Mankato is the variety of backdrops throughout campus. From modern architecture and archways to glowing trees and fountains, there are so many beautiful spots that photograph perfectly during sunset.

Erika chose a simple white dress paired with nude heels and her deep purple graduation cap and gown, which photographed beautifully against the warm spring tones around campus. The soft golden hour light gave the entire gallery a warm, glowy feel that perfectly matched the joy and excitement of graduating college.

Why College Graduation Photos Matter

College graduation sessions are about so much more than just getting a few cap-and-gown photos. They capture an entire season of life—the late nights studying, friendships made, goals achieved, and the excitement of stepping into a brand new chapter.

I always encourage graduates to make their session personal by incorporating things that matter to them. Whether that’s bringing your dog, popping champagne, wearing your stole proudly, or simply choosing locations around campus that hold memories, those little details make your gallery feel meaningful and unique.

One of my favorite moments from Erika’s session was incorporating her pup into a few photos during sunset. Those candid moments always end up being some of the most memorable images from a session.
